Shannon Medical Center has provided the San Angelo area with more than 85 years of healthcare. The main facility includes a designated Level III Trauma Facility, named the top Trauma Facility in Texas, a Women’s & Children’s Hospital with a Level II NICU facility, and nationally-recognized cardiac and stroke programs. Located in central west Texas, San Angelo lies within the Concho Valley, between the Permian Basin to the northwest and the Chihauhaun Desert to the southwest. The annual San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo has drawn visitors to the area since 1932. Temperatures typically reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit about 18 times in a year, and winters usually include about 50 days of lows below freezing.
