Hospital Description
Methodist Hospital opened its doors in 1963 and has since become the flagship facility for the Methodist Healthcare System. The facility is one of the largest hospitals in the U.S. and includes 811 beds, 25 operating suites, a Level III Trauma Center, the largest robotics program in the world, and the first Fact Accredited adult blood and marrow stem cell transplant program in the nation. The facility also includes a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
San Antonio, Texas, is a vibrant urban city, steeped in history and culture. The city contains five 18th-century Spanish frontier missions which include The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. The River Walk, a special-case pedestrian street, attracts visitors at all times during the year, but particularly during the River Parade and Fiesta San Antonio. San Antonio is also home to SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Host to the San Antonio Spurs, the city’s only top-level professional sports team, the city also supports a number of tournaments for soccer, baseball, football, and golf. The economy is driven primarily by military, health care, government-civil service, financial services, oil and gas, and tourism. In 2015, San Antonio was designated as a “Bicycle Friendly Community,” but the city is still considered one of the most car-dependent major cities in the United States. As part of a transitional humid subtropical climate that borders a semi-arid climate, summers are very hot, long and humid, whereas winters can be mild to cool.
